News from the West

Connections are building up during the summer months of wandering. Here is a selection of news from around the region.

Church Without Walls

Anthony Duncalf came to our creative church building day. He has sent in a list of interesting activities. So particularly if you live in the west of the south west please get in touch with him. I’ve also been contacted by a minister in New Galloway and visited the forest at Asheiri as a guest of Sarah.

  • 1st September – Taize-inspired evening in Kirkandrews Wee Kirk
  • 16th September – Walk to Whithorn Priory to mark the Feast of St Ninian

St Margaret’s New Galloway

  • Forest Church Soft Launch
  • Date: Sunday 18th September 2024
  • Time: 1.00pm – 3:00pm
  • Location: St Margaret’s Church grounds and surrounding area
  • Details: Join us for the inaugural gathering of Forest Church! We’d like to use themes around the beauty of our world, and the joy of living in such stunning surroundings to inspire us to be reflective and creative with crafts, reflections and food. Everyone of all ages is welcome to join us and see what it’s all about! The hope is that we’ll hold these afternoons on the third Sunday of each month, depending on how they go! Flexibility is key… Please pray for Forest Church, and those involved, as we try this new mission initiative!

Asheiri

Simon and Kate visited the wonderful house and woodland known as Asheiri. We discussed using some of the craft techniques developed in Quartz creative worship at a retreat they will be running soon. There is also a possibility of meeting as forest church in their woods.

Network

It looks like there is interest in forming a network some kind of informal network of folk in the region who are involved with Forest Church and related creative ways of doing worship and spirituality – sharing ideas, inspiration, and offering support and encouragement.
