Wordsmith Crafts CIC

Everything is held together in Wordsmith Crafts CIC (WSC). It is the vessel which keeps everything afloat, including all the behind the scenes networking, admin, and community development needed to support the quality and often bespoke activities we deliver.

Wordsmith Crafts CIC, the parent body of Cluaran and Quartz is an asset locked Community Interest Company, but not a charity. It is registered as a company in Scotland and pays taxes. It has been set up to make heritage accessible, pay a living wage to creatives for their work, and support formal volunteering. We chose this form to build slowly from the ground up rather than rely on grants. The company is “asset locked” so there is a cap on how any individual or group can profit from it’s activities, and to check that any surplus generated is fed back into developing the community.
