Faith and Art 2025 Welcome the New Year with creativity.
A series of practical sessions exploring the relationship between Faith, Art and Creativity.
Four Mondays in January, 1pm to 3pm, in St Michaels Church Hall, Dumfries, DG1 2LA.
There will be a bit of discussion and a bit of art and crafting. So if you are interested in religious art and have questions this is a place to experience, explore, and express that interest.
Wednesdays in January
- 8th – Sensing Beauty
- How can simple words describe feelings like beauty, wonder, value? Bring something you value for more than its physical components and we will take time to reflect on the wonder and beauty we are surrounded with everyday.
- 15th – Drawing Meaning
- Writing lets us take thoughts, draw them, and give them flesh that will last thousands of years. Have a go at the techniques used in the earliest books in the British Isles and enjoy drawing words.
- 22nd – Weaving Thoughts
- Reflect on the meaning of creativity in your own words. As a group we will weave these thoughts into the latest Quartz wall hanging. (previous examples hold responses to Pentecost, Spring, The river Nith, and more)
- 29th – Colouring Light
- The “stains“ on Church windows are gateways for wonder to flow through. In this final session we will explore how our understanding of spiritual sensations can be expressed through shaping and colouring the transmission of light. Like in a Stained Glass Window.
Like all Quartz activities everyone is invited and welcome to take part. We will do our best to adapt our content include you at the level you choose, please get in touch if there is anything in particular you’d like us to think about in advance.
This is a Quartz activity hosted by St Michaels Church. To ask about Quartz contact Simon, for information about the venue and St Michaels contact Fiona
