Faith and Art III

Weaving Thoughts

We will meet at 1pm in St Michaels church Hall on Wednesday the 22nd. This week we will move from “Drawing Meaning” using calligraphy onto exploring weaving thoughts and words together.

A busy group drawing meaning using pens and ink at week II.

In the second session there was the opportunity to try out some techniques of calligraphy. We also took time to reflect on how this helps us experience reading and writing in a different way.

In this third session we will have the opportunity to try out weaving techniques, and also work together to add to a wall hanging which holds the collective thoughts from the session.

We have used weaving like this to help people encounter something interesting, beautiful, and that they can get involved in at many public events. It is a way to combine personal, even secret, thoughts in a community work of art which provides a visual record of a shared experience.

Here are some examples of weaving spirituality in it’s wild natural habitat…

It was great to slow down and have time to think about each word being written onto the old envelope…using an old ink formula that smelled of red wine and got magically darker as it dried off!
We are connected to the world through smell, sight and hands so why not use them in a mindful way? And the coffee and biscuits tasted good too!
